The Working Party on Thermodynamics and Transport Properties of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering, Brussels, has chosen Prof. Ølvind Wilhemsen for its 2017 Excellence Award. He received a certificate and cash prize of €1,500 on 21 May 2017 during the 29th European Symposium on Applied Thermodynamics in Bucharest, Romania.
The honor recognizes his thesis “Equilibrium and Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics of Planar and Curved Interfaces,” which he wrote at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The judges cited him for being the first to carry out the particular equilibrium and transport studies for curved interfaces, the first to predict droplet stability in confinement, and the first to give heat and mass resistivities for water droplets.
Wilhemsen has been visiting researcher at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zurich, Switzerland, and the University of Barcelona in Spain. Since2010, he has been a research scientist at SINTEF Energy Research in Trondheim, Norway.
