North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein initiates a Criminal Investigative Demand (CID) related to the production and disposal of GenX at Chemours’ Fayetteville plant, according to an article from WNCN. The CID reportedly requires Chemours to turn over all records related to the unregulated compound.
According to the article, Stein is particularly concerned with Chemours’ marketing, which touts the GenX compound's “more sustainable technology” that reportedly enables the company to “reduce the potential for environmental release and exposure.” WNCN reports that water sample testing showed GenX was still in the public water supply, at a reduced level but after Chemours said it had stopped discharging the chemical into the river.
