Dow Manages Freezing Conditions At 2018 Winter Olympics

Dow building technologies have been incorporated into the Olympic Plaza, International Broadcast Center and Olympic Sliding Center in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Dow, the official chemistry company for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, is challenged with both conserving heat and maintaining cold at a range of Olympic venues. Dow building technologies are incorporated into the Olympic Plaza, where the opening and closing ceremonies are held; the International Broadcast Center, which serves as the main media hub, and the Olympic Sliding Center, site of events including luge and bobsled, according to an article in the Midland Daily News.

For those structures needing protection from February’s freezing temperatures, the roofs and walls are insulated with Dow's polyisocyanurate insulation panels, while the company's coating technology and Dow Corning silicone sealant provide waterproofing and fill and seal air gaps. Conversely, the Olympic Sliding Center requires Dow technology to maintain a cold temperature and ice consistency and incorporates on a polyurethane spray foam to regulate ice conditions on the track, according to the Midland Daily News
