John Hofmeister, CEO and founder of Citizens for Affordable Energy, and retired president of Shell Oil Company will present the opening keynote address at ISA Expo 2009 in Houston on Oct. 6. Hofmeister, whose keynote address is titled “Energy Security and Affordability in the 21st Century,” will be tackling these two critical concerns for industrial operations.
As Shell President, Hofmeister launched an extensive outreach program to discuss critical global energy challenges. The program included an 18-month, 50-city tour across the country during which Hofmeister led 250 other Shell leaders to meet with more than 15,000 business, community and civic leaders, policymakers, and academics to discuss what must be done to ensure affordable, available energy for the future.
Building on that effort, Hofmeister founded the not-for-profit, nation-wide membership association, Citizens for Affordable Energy with the stated mission to educate citizens and government officials about pragmatic, non-partisan affordable energy solutions, Environmental Protection, energy alternatives, efficiency, infrastructure, public policy, competitiveness, social cohesion, and quality of life.
In his presentation abstract Hofmeister notes “Green energy is helpful but inadequate to the demands of the future.” His keynote address will not only cover supply issues, but also the impact on economic competitiveness of an aging infrastructure, as well as the importance of investing in the traditional energy base.
The ISA EXPO 2009 conference will feature six Exchange Conference Tracks centered on key issues facing instrumentation, automation, and control professionals.
