White House Is Expected To Veto “Forever Chemicals” Act

Jan. 13, 2020
The White House indicates that it will veto the PFAS Action Act of 2019 if the legislation makes it out of Congress.

The White House is expected to veto a bill designed to keep toxic chemicals out of groundwater if the legislation makes it through Congress, according to an article from Newsweek. The PFAS Action Act of 2019 is sponsored by Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Dingell. PFAS chemicals, found in items like non-stick cookware and flame retardant foam, are known as “forever chemicals” because they don’t leave the body once ingested.

PFAS, which has been linked to the development of cancer, has been found in drinking water in areas across the country, according to the article. Dingell is quoted as saying, “PFAS is a clear threat to human health and our environment.” The Trump Administration reportedly opposes the legislation because it deems it as not cost-effective.
