The clock is ticking on Minnesota companies that use TCE. Companies have just one year to swap the toxic chemical for a safer alternative, according to an article from WCCO. Minnesota became the first state in the country to ban TCE in 2020.
The Minnesota Technical Assistance Program or MnTAP is trying to help companies find safer, sustainable alternatives, according to the article. MnTAP’s assistance, which includes sending samples to the Toxic Use Reduction Institute at UMass, comes at no cost. The Minnesota Pollution Conrol Agency reportedly tracks facilities using TCE and their progress replacing the chemical in real time. Companies have until next June to make a switch to a safer alternative.
