A high-pressure steam line failure at Eastman Chemical’s Kingsport manufacturing plant on Monday resulted in minor injuries to five individuals on site, according to an article from TimesNews. The steam line failure caused loud noises from the release of steam and vibrations that were felt by the surrounding community. Eastman officials reportedly said the incident is now contained and there was no fire at the plant, though fire crews responded to the scene.
Manufacturing operations at the plant were reportedly shut down on Tuesday. According to the article, community members may see small pieces of debris that can occur with utility line disruptions and hear venting from the site as power is restored, which reportedly is a “normal part of steam restoration and no cause for alarm,” says the company. Those injured received treatment from Eastman Medical or at Holston Valley Medical Center.
