The odds of a recession in 2020 are 25% or less, according to the majority of experts surveyed by the National Association for Business Economics (NABE). This view reported in the February 2020 NABE Economic Policy Survey is reportedly a reversal from the predominant view of panelists one year ago. According to NABE, only 13% of panelists now expect a 2020 slump.
About half (52%) of the panel reportedly considers the current fiscal policy “too stimulative,” and 90% believe policy should be used to reduce the deficit as a share of gross domestic product. About two thirds of respondents agree that the current stance of U.S. monetary policy is appropriate. A majority of respondents also say they believe that economic policy should do more to mitigate climate change and immigration.
