King Arthur and his knights gathered around a roundtable in Camelot to discuss events and tactics to preserve their code of chivalry. Legend has it that the shape of the table symbolized all those around it had an equal status. Fast forward to modern times and Chemical Processing has assembled its own list of noble names in the industry to discuss combustible dust at a digital roundtable. Unlike our well-established and popular webinars, this event will consist entirely of a panel discussion — and you’ll be able to submit questions beforehand.So, put Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. ET on your calendar. That’s when industry leaders in hazard identification, evaluation and control of combustible dust hazards will come together for an exclusive roundtable discussion. Our King Arthur (aka moderator), Guy Colonna, division director of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), will challenge our panelists with tough questions to increase awareness of the hazards and the available safeguards against fires and explosions when handling and processing combustible solids. Attendees will walk away with sound ideas and solutions to eliminate threats.

Jason Krbec, sales engineering manager at Jupiter, Fla.-based CV Technology, which specializes in explosion protection solutions for the prevention and mitigation of explosion hazards that result from process powders and dry bulk materials. Krbec is a registered Professional Engineer in Florida and an active member in The American Society of Mechanical Engineers; American Society of Safety Engineers and the NFPA.
Bruce McLelland, national account sales manager at Fike Corp., Blue Springs, Mo., has over 40 years in the life- and property-protection industry. His experience includes being a principle member on NFPA 654, NFPA 652, NFPA 664, and NFPA 61 as well as former committee member of the NFPA 68 and NFPA 69 standards on explosion venting and explosion protection committees. McLelland is a member of The National Society of Fire Protection Engineers and NFPA Industrial Section.
Gerd Mayer, president of Rembe, Inc., Charlotte, N.C., a consulting, engineering and safety technology manufacturer, has a hands-on approach that has resulted in a depth of experience with combustible dust explosion prevention, protection and applications that are vital to industry. He has a doctorate in process engineering as well as an engineering degree. Mayer is a member of the committees for NFPA standards 68 and 69.
The panelists will discuss and debate NFPA combustible dust standards, common misconceptions, challenges of conducting dust hazard analysis, newly issued NFPA 652 as it addresses use of historical data and when specific testing is required, as well as when and where explosion isolation is essential and training required to make it all work in concert to protect workers, product and integrity.
