System designed to help the plant increase production capacity by 50%.

Samsung Engineering Co. will utilize a Honeywell integrated process control system for a new fertilizer plant Samsung is building near Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Honeywell’s Experion PKS will be used to fully automate the facility and increase output by up to 50% for ammonia and urea used in fertilizer production, according to Honeywell.

Ruwais Fertilizer Industries, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., commissioned Samsung to develop the new fertilizer plant.

Honeywell says the system will help the plant, called FERTIL-2, to produce ammonia and urea in capacities of up to 2,000 and 3,500 metric tons per day respectively.

Production is scheduled to begin in January 2013.
