IPMI Promotes Plastics Industry Development In Mexico

Organization compiles and distributes the country’s most comprehensive encyclopedia on plastics.

In a continuing effort to promote plastics industry development in Mexico, IMPI has created the country’s most comprehensive encyclopedia on plastics, according to an article from Plastics News. The Enciclopedia del Plástico Siglo XXI, the work of a 12-person research team over three years, comprises 1,200 full-color pages in two hardback volumes. Five thousand copies of the encyclopedia are being distributed free of charge to plastics processing companies across the country and 3,000 more will be sent to universities, technical colleges and libraries in Mexico and in other parts of Latin America and the U.S.

IMPI, launched more than 30 years ago by Rafael Blanco, is a private institution that offers training courses to technicians, managers and executives in the plastics industry, along with consulting, information and research services. The encyclopedia covers commodity, engineering, specialty bio-based, thermoset and elastomer plastics. Blanco is seeking additional sponsors to pay for the work, which is intended to help combat what he says is a shortage of supervisors, machine operators and managers in Mexico’s plastics industry.
