Getting Updates on CFATS and Chemical Security
One of the things I will try to do with this blog is keep everyone updated on some of the better CFATS seminars or informational events being held. Most of these are free and they can be very useful in helping to get you the most current information on CFATS. These events often tap into resources and experts who have been working hands-on with CFATS and who know the ropes. Their real world experience is a great resource and can help make the CFATS process easier and less draining on your company resources and time.
One upcoming event this month is being held by the Chemical Industry Council of California in Sacramento on June 29. It is a one-day, free workshop focusing on the multiple aspects of chemical security. According to the CICC, topics will include the current legislative and regulatory impact on manufacturing, transportation, distribution and the use of Chemicals of Interest (COIs). It will also include practical advice for compliance, which again, is extremely important for every company or facility trying to meet these mandates.
I am participating on a panel and I will be joined by some excellent industry experts. Lawrence Sloan the president of SOCMA (Society for Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates) will give the keynote address and John Ulrich the executive director for CICC will be the moderator for the event. Other regulatory experts, industry association leaders, and DHS will speak as well.
You can get more information here and also register for the event. These workshops are an excellent place to get your questions answered and give you a solid background in the process. As companies are working through the CFATS steps their experience is invaluable and can benefit every other facility moving towards compliance.
