Siemens Acquires 3-D Specialist VRcontext

Oct. 31, 2012
Siemens expects the acquisition to strengthen its position in the industrial software market.

The Siemens Industry Automation division expanded its industry software portfolio with the acquisition of VRcontext International S.A.

VRcontext is a developer of 3-D visualization and training software for displaying complex engineering data in the shipbuilding and plant construction industries. Siemens expects the acquisition to strengthen its position in the industrial software market.

The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

VRcontext’s Walkinside 3-D visualization software is currently in use in plant operation and maintenance. The software directly accesses all plant information to display the current status of a plant in visually appealing, realistic 3-D graphics.

VRcontext specializes in remote offshore installations for the oil and gas industry. Walkinside will supplement Comos, a Siemens software solution for holistic plant management, in providing access to 3-D engineering data from the basic and detail engineering phases. A standard interface links Comos bidirectionally with Walkinside.
