Company Information

SABIC Americas, Inc.  is a wholly owned United States subsidiary of SABIC (Saudi Basic Industry Corp.). It was incorporated in Delaware in 1987 with offices in Connecticut, and its commercial offices moved to Houston in 1998. Today, SAI manages sales, marketing, business development, manufacturing, and research and technology throughout the Americas. The company is a provider of basic and intermediate chemicals and fertilizer products to industries throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. SAI also operates its own research and technology center in Texas. SABIC Americas' parent company was created by Saudi royal decree in September 1976. It marked Saudi Arabia's move into byproducts of oil extraction to produce value-added commodities such as chemicals, polymers and fertilizers for export.

    Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan Al-Saud currently currently works as a chairman of Royal Commission for Saudi cities of Jubail and Yanbu. He also holds board memberships for the Utility of Water & Electricity Company in Jubail and Yanbu, Prince Salman's Social Center and the Royal Family. He also is a member in several committees formed by a Royal Decree to serve the needs of Al-Jouf, Jizan, Northern Boarder and Hail Areas. As well as the villages and areas of the western cost, the needs of Yanbu Governorates.

    Al-Mady has been vice chairman and CEO of of S SABIC since July 1998. He joined the company in 1976 with a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wyoming. He also is chairman and managing director of the Saudi Arabian Fertilizer Co., chairman of SABIC Europe B.V. supervisory board and chairman of SABIC Innovative Plastics supervisory board.

    Before taking up his current post, Al-Morished was vice president of shared services, president of the Saudi Petrochemical Co. and president of the Saudi Iron and Steel Co. In addition, Al-Morished sits on the board of the Arabian Petrochemical Co., the Jubail United Petrochemical Co., Aluminium Bahrain, Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill Co., Marafiq and the Saudi Fund for Development. He is also on the SABIC Research and Technology executive committee.

SABIC Americas' main chemicals products include oxygenates, aromatics, chemical intermediates and fiber intermediates. The main chemicals in the oxygenates group are alcohols and ethers. An important oxygenate for SABIC is methyl tertiary butyl ether, the octane enhancer that replaces lead in fuel. Methanol is the starting point for the formaldehyde resins on which the paint, adhesive and decorative-laminate industries depend, while purified industrial ethanol is a component of many pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, insecticides and organic solutions. Aromatics are a group of hydrocarbons that form the basis of important commodity chemicals used in the production of items such as clothing, paints and packaging. Among SABIC’s aromatics are styrene, benzene and paraxylene. Chemical intermediates are used to make a wide range of materials for everyday essentials such as textiles, soaps, polyvinyl chloride  and other plastics. Fiber intermediates are used in the manufacture of antifreeze, detergents, paints and polyester.
