Nalco Co. merged with Ecolab Inc. on Dec. 1, 2011. Nalco has grown from a fledgling water treatment business to a leading global integrated water treatment and process improvement company. The company’s core markets include water treatment and process chemicals. Nalco has more than 11,000 employees who work with more than 70,000 customers in 130 countries in industry, government and institutions to reduce water and energy consumption by solving and preventing problems, protecting the environment, decreasing costs, increasing productivity, improving profitability by reducing customer total costs of operation and maintaining asset reliability. Through its global research groups, Nalco develops key ideas through its product development process.
Douglas Baker Jr.
Chairman and CEO
Baker began his career with Ecolab in 1989, following seven years in brand management at Procter & Gamble. At Ecolab, he has held key roles in marketing, sales and general management in both the U.S. and Europe, and leadership positions including vice president and general manager of Kay, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ecolab; senior vice president of the Institutional Sector; and president and chief operating officer of Ecolab. In July 2004, Baker was named president and chief executive officer, and in May 2006, added chairman of the board to his duties. In 2011, Baker led Ecolab’s merger with Nalco, an $8 billion transaction which nearly doubled the size of the company. In 2013, he strengthened Ecolab’s energy services business through the $2.3 billion acquisition of Champion Technologies.
President and Chief Operating Officer
In his current role, Handley is responsible for providing leadership, management and strategic counsel for seven of Ecolab’s eight business sectors. Previously, Handley was senior executive vice president and president of Global Food & Beverage and Asia Pacific Latin America. Earlier, he was executive vice president and later president of Ecolab’s Industrial and Services North America sector. He joined Ecolab in 2003 as senior vice president of strategic planning. Prior to joining Ecolab, Handley spent 22 years at Procter & Gamble, most recently as vice president of Feminine Care Strategic Planning and Global Marketing. He also held a variety of marketing, strategic planning and general management roles, including assignments in consumer products and foodservice businesses.
Steve M. Taylor
Executive Vice President and President of Global Energy
Prior to joining Ecolab in 2011 through a merger with Nalco Company, Taylor was executive vice president and president of Nalco’s Energy Services Division. Taylor led Nalco’s Energy Services division since 2007, after a series of leadership roles within the division, including vice president, Upstream Energy Services; strategic business unit leader of Nalco’s Oilfield Chemicals group and division vice president of marketing for Upstream and Downstream. Taylor joined Nalco in 1994, when the joint venture Nalco/Exxon Energy Chemicals was created between Nalco and Exxon Energy Chemicals.
