New battery could mean better, longer lasting and cheaper batteries.

Tesla closes out 2019 by filing a patent on a new battery chemistry, according to an article from Elecktrek.co. The move is the latest in a series of national and international patents filed by the automaker since unveiling the results of tests earlier this year on a new battery cell that reportedly may last over 1 million miles in an electric vehicle.

According to the article, the subsidiary Tesla Motors Canada filed a new international patent called ”Dioxazolones and nitrile sulfites as electrolyte additives for lithium-ion batteries.” The battery chemistry reportedly results in better, longer lasting and cheaper batteries that can be used for electric vehicles and grid storage.
