Corteva will end production of chlorpyrifos – a pesticide linked to brain damage – by the end of this year, according to an article from Manufacturing Net. The company, which was spun off after DuPont’s merger with Dow Chemical, reportedly says it believes the product is safe and that it is winding down production due to shrinking demand.
The pesticide, which is used on crops including citrus, cotton, grapes and almonds, has been linked to health issues in children, including brain damage, according to the article. Chlorpyrifos has reportedly come under fire from environmentalists for years, and California recently banned sales of the agricultural chemical. According to the article, the Obama administration moved to ban chlorpyrifos after studies revealed health dangers, but the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reversed the ban under the Trump administration.
