STEM Graduates Earn Healthy Paychecks

Engineering specialties dominate top mid-career salaries.

Engineers take home the largest paychecks, but STEM graduates across the board can look forward to healthy earnings upon graduation, according to an article from U.S. News & World Report. The article examines the top ten majors with the highest mid-career salaries based on a Georgetown University report, “Economic Impact of College Majors."

Petroleum engineering majors reportedly earn the highest mid-career salaries, coming in at $136,000 annually, and will earn around $4.8 million over the course of their careers.  The unemployment rate for engineers is also relatively lower than other fields at 3.8%, compared with 8.1% for the general population, according to the article. Pharmaceutical sciences, metallurgical engineering, mining and mineral engineering, and chemical engineering round out the top five.
