REACH Conference To Provide Clarification Of Standards

Aug 25, 2009

iSmithers, formerly the information division within independent testing, research and consulting organization Smithers Rapra, will organize another US REACH conference in Chicago, April 13-14, 2010.

The eighth in the series of REACH conferences is being developed to coincide with advancing deadlines for the submission of dossiers to ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) and the widespread concerns over the implementation of the new harmonized system of classification, labeling and packaging of substances (CLP) – both of which have a November 2010 time limit.

In recent months many experts have advised that lead registration dossiers should be submitted to the ECHA by June 2010 – six months before the official deadline – to allow ECHA time to conduct appropriate completeness checks.  Many organizations still need clarification over how to meet their responsibilities with regard to the management of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) and the associated candidate list and communication requirements. For many American businesses there is also the added concern that REACH will trigger further chemicals policy initiatives, drive TSCA reform discussions and bring about a new set of obligations to fulfill.

This conference is being developed for industry to ensure they understand the practical implications for them and are able to implement them as necessary.

iSmithers is currently recruiting speakers for this event. All abstracts should be directed to Alix Reeves, Business Manager – Conferences, .
