Although, bulk density of a powder is the primary variable considered in designing for mixer power, I do not know of a rigorous or systematic method for calculating power requirements for powder mixing. The problem is that in addition to bulk density, powders may be cohesive to some degree, which will resist the rotation of a mixer. Most designs rely on some degree of overestimating the power requirements.
