Charles Ross & Son’s inline high-shear mixers are suitable for general-purpose mixing, powder wet-out, particle size reduction, solubilization emulsification and homogenization. This type of device features a four-blade rotor running within a close-tolerance fixed stator at tip speeds in the range of 3,000 to 4,000 ft/min. It also includes ultra-high shear designs running at tip speeds over 11,000 ft/min.
It creates mechanical and hydraulic shear by continuously drawing product components into the rotor and expelling them radially through the openings in the stator. Interchangeable rotor/stator generators provide flexibility to adapt to a variety of product recipes.
Typically installed as part of a recirculation loop, inline high-shear mixers are generally capable of pumping low to medium viscosity products without the need for an auxiliary pump. These mixers are suitable for process lines that require frequent changeover from one formulation to another. A valve can divert finished product downstream or switch instantly from one source vessel to another.
