Efficiency Motors Handle High-Torque Applications

Dec. 13, 2011
New motors exceed NEMA Premium efficiency levels.

WEG Electric has introduced a new line of Super Premium Efficiency AC motors from 1 to 250 horsepower. The motors are suited for high-torque applications or high-overload situations without having to specify a special-purpose motor. They exceed NEMA Premium efficiency levels with at least 20% fewer losses, with a 1.25 service factor up to 250 hp.

The line features a new design for the WEG’s W22 platform, which uses the same frame sizes as standard NEMA motors. Premium Efficiency AC motors are built using FC-200 cast iron from the company’s foundries, providing durability and performance in harsh conditions. Added protection is also derived from a paint system that is capable of passing a 240-hr ASTM 117B salt fog chamber test.

Providing improved airflow through the motor frame, a new cooling system was designed to keep operational temperatures low, as well as provide cooler bearing temperatures to extend re-lubrication intervals. In addition, WEG offers a new brochure available for download that indicates which VFD or soft starter model suits each motor size.
