Magnetically Actuated Electric Switch Can Withstand Extreme Environments

Sept. 10, 2008

K-TEK introduces the MS41, a durable, magnetically actuated electric switch. The MS41 features a compact, dual-compartment design that isolates the 10 A DPDT (double pole, double throw) switching mechanism from the environment. Electrical connection is made through a hermetic seal within the enclosure that protects the internal mechanism from moisture and heat damage over an extended period of time.

The NEMA 4X, stainless steel enclosure ensures the MS41 can be used in corrosive, offshore environments and can handle a range of demanding uses, including high temperature (up to 1000°F/538°C) and high vibration applications, such as pump and compressor skids. The MS41 Magnetically Actuated Electric Switch features a unique cam action switching mechanism. There are no bias springs to adjust or maintain as parts age, so the switch requires no maintenance — no cleaning and no operational checks — and provides more reliable performance. The trip point is infinitely adjustable along the length of a magnetic level gauge without changing the process piping.

The MS41 switch can be used with K-TEK’s KM26 Magnetic Level Gauge, LS Series Cage Level Instruments, or an external chamber that contains a magnetic float. The MS41 senses high or low levels within a vessel. The unique, magnetic coupling action eliminates the need for seals, diaphragm springs, or torque tubes because there is no physical contact with the process. The switch is housed in a 316L stainless steel, dual compartment, NEMA4X enclosure. It meets the requirements for use in hazardous areas and is ATEX, FM, and CSA rated as Explosion Proof and Intrinsically Safe.
