Metal Detector Achieves ATEX Compliance for Use in Hazardous Locations
Fortress Technology announced the certification of its Phantom HL-AT model metal detector with ATEX compliance for use in hazardous location zones 21 and 22 per Directive 94/9/EC. The ATEX approval validates the Phantom detector's intrinsic safety in potentially explosive dust atmospheres, typically found in powder handling plants.
ATEX is the European Union's legislative framework for employee protection in environments where explosions represent a risk. The certificate for the EU market complements Fortress' North American equivalent HAZLOC approval, reaffirming that its systems are built rugged to meet customers' safety requirements plus the most demanding international quality standards.
ATEX-certified Phantom HL-AT Metal Detectors are now available in Gravity units for freefalling bulk product, or in Standard horizontal units for products transported via conveyor. The HL-AT performs to the same high level as the established Phantom using the same advanced electronics, but varies in construction using ATEX approved parts. It is ideal for use in hot industrial environments with temperatures up to 50°C (122°F).
