5,000th Air Classifier

Sturtevant sold its 5,000th air classifier - a SuperFine - to Imerys.

Sturtevant, Inc. sold its 5,000th air classifier to Imerys.  The company’s first air classifier was sold to Reynolds Tobacco Co. of Winston-Salem, NC and shipped on Sept. 18, 1919.  The early design still has features recognizable today in Sturtevant’s Whirlwind Air Classifier, including an internal fan, according to the company.

The first air classifier sold was capable of cut sizes in the range of 100 to 325 mesh and was the first internal fan classifier with sharp cut point classification and recirculation, according to Sturtevant. Number 5000, a SuperFine Air Classifier offers cut points as low as 3 micron.
