Repsol Aims To Improve Operational Efficiency Via ABB Tool

Nov 10, 2009

Repsol YPF, a global oil and gas company, recently purchased ABB’s cpmPlus Smart Client to improve operational efficiency at its Lube Oil Blending plant at the La Plata Refinery in Argentina.

Located in Buenos Aires, Repsol’s La Plata facility is a local producer of automotive gas (fuel oil, diesel oil, gasoline) as well as lubricants and specialties (asphalts, paraffins and derivatives).

Utilizing the extended automation capabilities of System 800xA technology, Smart Client is said to provide intelligent data access and viewing functions in a user-friendly, browser-based display to assist all levels of personnel when they need a real-time window into their operations when they are not on-site. These displays are available using standard network connections, inside or outside of the manufacturing facility. System 800xA’s single point of change management ensures that all updates are automatically reproduced throughout the system, so that any information viewed via Smart Client reflects the up-to-the minute system context, status and process conditions.

Smart Client incorporates the same system-wide authorization settings as System 800xA, ensuring data security and integrity, according to ABB. In addition to browser-based graphical displays, Smart Client also provides trending and statistical process control. Options for alarm and event reporting and a Microsoft Excel interface are also available.

“This is exactly the type of application that we were envisioning for Smart Client,” says Jim Kline, ABB’s product manager for cpmPlus Smart Client stated. “Information is often scattered between systems, and Smart Client provides an easy way to bring it together so that any user can see the important indicators they need to effectively manage their business.”
