The Port of Wilmington will pay $10 million for a 114-acre site on the Delaware River that once housed the Chemours Edgemoor manufacturing plant, according to an article from Philly.com. Chemours closed the titanium dioxide plant in October 2015, reportedly stating at the time that the property would be returned to benefit the community and state.
According to the article, Chemours closed the plant because the uses and demand for white paper, which is manufactured using titanium dioxide, had declined. The company reportedly sought to work with the community and economic development leaders for a productive reuse of the site. The Diamond State Port Corp., which operates the terminal, is seeking an investor to develop a container terminal because the current port is near capacity.
