NASA is giving eight tech innovators the opportunity to put their ideas to the test. The agency is awarding funding to eight finalists whose projects were selected through the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts Program (NIAC), according to an article from Christian Science Monitor. Projects with “the potential to transform future aerospace missions, introduce new capabilities and significantly improve current approaches to building and operating aerospace systems," will receive funding, says NASA in the article.
The future tech projects include “Solar White,” an ultra-reflective novel coating proposed by NASA Kennedy Space Center physicist Robert Youngquist that will theoretically repel 99.9% of solar energy. Youngquist will reportedly manufacture and test the coating on surfaces for possible applications such as extended cryogenic storage units and high temperature superconductivity.
