The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has its sights set on young Australian talent as global competition for the best STEM students heats up. The university, founded just 25 years ago and already ranked in the world’s Top 50, according to an article from The Sydney Morning Herald, is actively exploring partnerships and exchange programs with Australia’s top universities and tapping directly into the high school talent pool.
HKUST was reportedly ranked as the world's 49th best university in the Times Higher Ed list, and 36th in the QS World University Rankings. In Australia, only the University of Melbourne and Australian National University are ranked higher on both lists, according to the article. HKUST reportedly teaches in English, focuses intently on research and Ph.D. programs and has a more balanced curriculum for first year undergraduate students. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, international students and instructors who want to live in Asia but work in English are particularly attracted to the campus.
