German chemical manufacturer Covestro AG is working with local logistics companies in China to upgrade chemical transport in the country, according to an article from Shanghai Daily. For the past seven years, the company has reportedly collaborated with several local companies, including Sinotrans, to build and maintain emergency response stations across China that offer rapid response in the case of an industrial accident.
According to the article, China has appropriated 4.3 billion yuan (US$644 million) for emergency response mechanisms since 2010. Since last year’s chemical explosion in Tianjin, the Chinese government has reportedly urged local governments and companies to set up rescue and response systems. Covestro’s “hub and spoke” system features interconnected emergency response stations, which can quickly provide help to other regions when necessary. According to the article, the company’s work has earned notice in the “Invest in Green Future” Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Awards.
