The American Chemical Society, Washington, D.C., is running its Chemistry Champions contest again in 2015. It aims to honor the communication skills of chemists 35 years old or younger in explaining their research.
The first round of the contest asks the chemists to explain their research via a fun, two-to-three-minute video aimed at the general public. (The winning video from last year’s contest — from Jennifer Novotney of Cornell University on how polymers can detect explosives — as well as other entries appear at http://bit.ly/chemchamps2014.) Submissions must be made by April 8th, with initial selection done based on views received on the ACS You Tube channel (www.youtube.com/user/AmerChemSoc). Semifinalists will be flown to ACS headquarters for communications training; finalists will compete in front of live audiences in Boston.
