With the recent growth of medical and commercial cannabis in the U.S., some within the chemical industry believe the time has come to give cannabis chemists a home of their own. To that end, the American Chemical Society establishes a cannabis chemistry subdivision (CANN), according to an article at ChemistryWorld.com.
The CANN subdivision, which began as the cannabis chemistry committee within the ACS’s small chemical business division, is now part of the chemical health and safety (CHAS) division. ACS member Ezra Pryor who is also president of Ezchem cannabis consultancy started a petition to create a division in 2014, which reportedly resulted in the formation of the committee. Since 2011, according to ChemistryWorld, the number of cannabis testing laboratories in the U.S. has increased from two to more than two dozen.
