Purdue University's School of Chemical Engineering will recognize Honeywell executive Norm Gilsdorf at the school's centennial celebration this year. Gilsdorf, president of Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS), has been honored with an Outstanding Chemical Engineer Award and is a featured speaker in the school's Centennial Seminar series.
His presentation, titled "Have Chemical Engineering Degree – Will Travel," will highlight the potential career benefits of pursuing chemical engineering degrees and the important role engineers can have in advancing technology that will be energy efficient, safe and sustainable.
In addition to being named a top alumnus, Gilsdorf will also be inducted into the College of Engineering Cooperative Education Hall of Fame. He credits the cooperative education program for launching his engineering career and giving him real-world experience while still in school.
After he graduated from Purdue in 1977 and working as a chemical engineer for many years, Gilsdorf leveraged his technical knowledge to lead sales and business development efforts for UOP LLC, provider of process technology for the refining, gas process and petrochemical industries. Honeywell eventually acquired UOP, and Gilsdorf rose through the ranks to become vice president and general manager for HPS’ business in Europe, Middle East and Africa, based in the United Kingdom. He became HPS president in 2009.
