SCI Awards The 2009 Chemical Industry Medal To Jeffrey Lipton

The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) has named Jeffrey M. Lipton, CEO of NOVA Chemicals (http://www.chemicalprocessing.com/cp50/2008/nova_chemicals.html), to receive the 2009 Chemical Industry Medal.
The Chemical Industry Medal honors an individual whose leadership, commitment and contributions have been responsible for substantial progress and performance in the chemical industry.
Lipton has been the CEO of NOVA Chemicals since its start up in 1998. Previously, he was president and chief operating officer of NOVA Chemicals' predecessor, NOVA Corp. Prior to joining NOVA Corp., Lipton worked for E.I. DuPont for almost three decades.
Lipton has been an advocate for sharing information and best practices in Responsible Care while encouraging the entire chemical industry to continuously improve process safety performance. His active participation in industry associations as a past Chairman of the Board of the American Chemistry Council and a past Chairman of the Board of SCI, America International Group has helped build confidence and trust with our industry's stakeholders.
Lipton is a Director of the Board of the American Chemistry Council, the Canadian Council of Chief Executives and United States Steel Corp. He is a past director of Hercules Inc. Recently, Lipton has been honored with the 2008 Tree of Life award, presented by the Jewish National Fund for notable community involvement, and the 2007 International Palladium Medal, presented by SCI, America International Group, for outstanding contributions to the world's chemical industry.
A native of New York City, Lipton earned his MBA from Harvard University and his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
