Millipore Corp., a provider of technologies, tools and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, announces that David Newman, Director of EHS & Sustainability, has been selected to present “Costs and Benefits of Implementing a Sustainable Energy Program” at Interphex on March 18, 2009, at 10:15 a.m.
"Ideally, we hope attendees will be able to take away ideas on how to approach prioritizing and cutting their company’s energy needs, and ultimately reducing costs and carbon impacts,” says Newman.
As part of Millipore’s five-year goal to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20%, the company has instituted a comprehensive energy program that includes efficiency, renewable energy installation and purchase, employee communications and careful measurement of results. Newman’s presentation will illustrate how Millipore has dramatically reduced its electricity usage—and carbon footprint—through the implementation of this multi-faceted approach. Newman will detail several new projects and discuss the environmental, economic and social benefits that have resulted from each.
Newman leads Millipore’s CEO-sponsored Sustainability Initiative, which addresses waste and product stewardship. Under Newman’s leadership, Millipore has reduced energy consumption by 10% since 2007, adopted a hybrid vehicle fleet, developed two LEED building projects and lowered annual water usage by 40 million gallons. Prior to joining Millipore in 2003, Newman worked in EHS management consulting. He holds a master’s degree in both Public Health and Industrial Environmental Management.
