Intergraph Corporation has announced that Chinergy, the organization commissioned to build the world's first commercial, modular high-temperature, gas-cooled reactor in China's Shandong Province, has selected SmartPlant® 3D and SmartPlant Enterprise as the core technology for project design and implementation requirements.
The Chinese media has recently announced that the Chinese government will be the first to commercially venture into this type of nuclear technology. The reports state this technology is safer and significantly less harmful to the environment, and that a by-product of this type of nuclear reactor is hydrogen, a cleaner fuel providing alternative, energy-saving options. The reports further state that once in production, expected around 2010, China will provide a new type of nuclear power to reduce China's dependence on coal and oil to fuel its rapid growth and industrialization.
"After an extensive evaluation of all traditional plant engineering, design, and information and materials management applications, we felt the SmartPlant Enterprise suite of solutions was the only choice for this next generation of clean, green and safe nuclear reactors," said Frank Wu, CEO, Chinergy. "The advanced architecture of SmartPlant 3D is unsurpassed providing an open, modern platform for new systems and the next generation of plant engineering and design."
Gerhard Sallinger, President of Intergraph's Process, Power and Marine division, said "Chinergy's selection of Intergraph's SmartPlant Enterprise suite further validates our worldwide industry and technology leadership as the premiere provider of plant engineering and design technology. Intergraph's long-term investment in our vision for engineering enterprise technology is helping to drive the revolutionary shift in plant design and engineering, which makes projects like Chinergy's possible."
Once complete, Huaneng Group, one of China's largest independent utilities; China Nuclear Engineering and Construction Corporation, China's construction company for the nuclear island; and Tsinghua University will own and operate the power plant.
The SmartPlant Enterprise product portfolio provides advanced design and engineering functionality, usability and work process improvement resulting in major business benefit to cut schedules, boost productivity and increase engineering quality.
