What is the advantage/disadvantage for running a centrifugal pump (direct driven-AC motor, same KW/HP rating) at 1500 rpm or 3000 rpm (at a frequency of 50 Hz).Which motor rpm has to be selected and when, why? In other words, when should one use higher rpm and lower rpm for the same motor ratings?

The speed is usually determined by the application and the budget, as the lower speed pump will be larger and therefore more expensive but not necessarily more efficient.
