Kindly let me know whether the reducer (expander) in a pump discharge nozzle has to be located immediately after the nozzle, or whether it can be located at some distance. The pump is a flushing water pump. The line size is 1.5 in. and the discharge nozzle diameter is 1.25 in.

Re: Expander installation
16 March 2007 at 1:29pmThe discharge increaser should always be located immediately on the discharge flange of the pump. The velocities from the pump are too high to be adequately handled by the check valves and isolating valves. These velocities need to be lowered by the larger pipe diameter.
