What size impeller should I use to mix ethanol and water (40% ethanol) in a 275-gallon plastic IBC tank? I also want to disperse and mix a fine carbon powder into the thoroughly mixed ethanol/water mixture. I'd really like to use something that can be attached to an electric drill.
Have an insight or suggestion?

Re: What size impeller will disperse fine carbon powder in ethanol/water mixture?
26 May 2010 at 1:29pmA heavy-duty ½-inch electric drill with a 9-volt motor and a maximum speed of 500 rpm should provide sufficient mixing to disperse fine carbon powder in your ethanol/water mixture. The recommended impeller options are either a 12-inch diameter propeller (hydrofoil) or a 10-inch diameter pitched-blade turbine. These impellers will fully load the drill, smaller impellers or lower speeds may be adequate to accomplish the mixing.
