I need to determine torque required to mix H2O and some chemicals in a 4,000 gallon vertical tank with a viscosity of SAE90 after mixing. The tank inside has a diameter of 119 inches with 4 blades that are 45 inches across, 8 inches wide with a 45 degree angle. The blade is 31 inches from the bottom and is mounted on a 2 inch vertical shaft. They need to run this from 60 RPM to 120 RPM.

Re: Can you help me determine impeller diameter and torque?9 April 2010 at 1:29pmBased on your process and tank description, you will need a 30-inch diameter impeller to operate over the range from 60 to 120 rpm. A 5-hp motor should be adequate, which will keep the torque at 2,600 in-lbs and within the capability of a 2.0-inch diameter shaft. The tank should be baffled for good mixing.
