Can you tell me what effect elevated nitrite levels would have on heat transfer system? This system is used to cool oil in turbines. The nitrite levels are in excess of 8,000 ppm.
Have an insight or suggestion?

Re: The effects of elevated nitrite levels
19 September 2006 at 1:29pmI do not have any expertise in contaminant effects on various heat transfer oils. I would suggest contacting the heat transfer oil manufacturer for guidance on important contaminants in the oil. If there are high nitrite levels in the cooling water, it may become a problem if it accelerates corrosion or reaches the solubility limit and begins to plate-out on heat transfer surfaces.
