If you know the conductivity of the fouling material then the layer thickness can be directly determined by the formula: x = k*rf  where x is the thickness, k is the thermal conductivity of the fouling material and rf is the fouling resistance (i.e., factor).  The question really becomes, how do you know what the fouling factor is?
