Re: Which material should I use to fabricate overflow pipe?2 September 2014 at 11:23am
Sulfuric acid is a tricky chemical to deal with since its corrosivity varies with concentration, temperature, impurities, and velocity; sometimes in unexpected ways. I suggest you get a copy of NACE Standard SP0294 - Design, Fabrication, and Inspection of Storage Tank Systems for Concentrated Fresh and Process Sulfuric Acid and Oleum
at Ambient Temperatures to understand what MOCs are possibilities and how your tank should be designed including the overflow pipe.
I have to fabricate an overflow u-seal pipe for a 98% sulfuric acid tank. The pipe would be filled with water and will be subjected to sulfuric acid fumes and sulfuric acid. I want to know which pipe material I should use to fabricate this overflow pipe.
