According to the book "Materials Selection for the Chemical Process Industries" published by MTI, several alloys might be acceptable for this service. Conventional ferritic (e.g., S43000) and 18-8 stainless steels are satisfactory up to 205 degrees C. Nickel alloys like N02200 and N04400 are resistant up to about 300 degrees C. Alloy C276 and Alloy 59 are even more resistant. Ultimately, the choice might depend on the conditions of moisture, aeration and what impurities are present.
We have an application for liquid sulfur at 179 degrees C. Which material is suitable for a throttling control valve trim?
