Is soot-blowing still applicable when natural and or fuel gas with <0.05 wt percentage H2S and <0.1 C6+ is being fired? To me this is a waste of money if the frequency is once a day. On other furnaces and boilers the convection sections are being cleaned every five years with the same fired fuel. I need to convince the owners.

Re: Is soot-blowing still applicable?
20 October 2010 at 1:29pmIf the soot-blowers are already installed, the additional cost of running them is minimal. Maybe the frequency of operating them could be reduced. Additionally, the cost of downtime could be significant if there is accumulation of soot.
To prove your case, you could try running for a short while without the soot-blowers and see if there is any accumulation of soot.
