How can I prevent vapor from moving to the outlet piping of condenser?

Q: We have a shell and tube heat exchanger (condenser) that is horizontal with counter-current flow (monomer vapor in pipe, water in shell). The problem is when monomers vaporize in reactor, these vapors can go up to the inlet and outlet piping of condenser connected to the reactor. How can I prevent vapor from moving to the outlet piping of condenser?

A: If the condenser is connected at both inlet and exit, to a reactor generating vapors then you cannot prevent vapor bypassing the condenser without a seal leg.  There must be a liquid seal between the discharge of the condenser and the return line to the vessel, or the condensate must be collected in a separate vessel and pumped back to the reactor.
