Protecting from overloading your compressor
Q: If I am running three gas compressors in parallel and one of the compressors fails, the load will be increased on the other compressor, how do I protect from overload?
A: If the compressors are electric motor driven, the current to each motor can be measured, if the current rises due to the loss of one compressor, a signal from the current measurement can be sent to a suction throttle valve at each of the two remaining compressors to reduce the load to an acceptable level. If the compressors are turbine driven, a flow meter can be installed on each compressor. When one compressor goes down, the flow to the others will rise. An output signal from the flow can be sent to each governor to reduce the compressor speed until a safe load is achieved.
