Determining ratio compression

Q: How do you determine ratio compression?

A: The reply depends on your definition of compression ratio. Strictly speaking, compression ratio is the volume ratio across a stage and sometimes used with positive displacement compressors. For centrifugal compressors the proper term is pressure ratio, often misnamed as compression ratio. Pressure ratio is defined as Discharge absolute pressure divided by Inlet absolute pressure.
