Company Information
Houston-based Sasol North America is an integrated producer of commodity and specialty chemicals employing approximately 700 people. The company is a subsidiary of South African-based Sasol Ltd. and has manufacturing locations in Baltimore, Lake Charles, La., and Tucson, Ariz. The company's research and development facility is located near the largest manufacturing facility in the Lake Charles area. Formed from the chemical division of Conoco Inc., Vista Chemical became a private company in July 1984. In 1986, it became a publicly traded company, and in 1991 a wholly owned subsidiary of the German oil and gas producer RWE-DEA as part of the Coneda Group. On March 1, 2001, RWE-DEA finalized an agreement with Sasol Limited of Johannesburg, South Africa to purchase Coneda. Sasol North America operates as part of Sasol Olefins & Surfactants, headquartered in Germany. Sasol Olefins & Surfactants is part of the chemicals division of Sasol Limited.

Pat Davies

Davies became chief executive of Sasol Ltd. on July 1, 2005 and has been a director since 1997. He is also a director of several other companies in the group. Davies joined the group in 1975 and has been responsible for various portfolios, the most recent of which was the oil, gas and liquid fuels businesses, including Sasol Synfuels, Sasol Petroleum International, Sasol Synfuels International, Sasol Oil, Sasol Gas and Sasol Technology. He was also responsible for the globalization of Sasol’s GTL technology.
Nolitha Fakude
executive director
Fakude was appointed an executive director of Sasol on Oct. 1, 2005. She is responsible for the worldwide human resources and strategy functions of the group. Before joining Sasol, she was a member of the group executive committee at Nedbank. She is also a director of Woolworths Holdings, Harmony Gold Mining and the non-executive president of the Black Management Forum.
Christine Ramon
chief financial officer
Ramon joined Sasol as CFO on May 1, 2006. Ramon was chief executive of listed hotels and gaming group at Johnnic Holdings Ltd. until January 2006. She joined the Johnnic group in 1995 where she held several senior positions including acting chief operating officer and financial director.

Products
Sasol North America's product family groups are collections of materials based on their chemical composition. The main product groups are fatty acid esters and specialty surfactants products, including alcohol and derivatives, alkylates, alumina, comonomer alpha olefins and ethylene, ethoxylates, fatty acid esters, heat transfer fluids, isoparaffinic solvents, normal paraffins, oxygenated solvents and specialty products. The alumina product group is part of Sasol's "inorganic specialties" business unit. Its focus is on the production of synthetic aluminas derived from aluminium alkoxides. Sasol aluminas offer high chemical purity and key properties such as acid and/or water dispersibility, pore volume and particle size adjustment, and high residual surface area.These products are used in a broad range of applications, including catalyst supports, coatings, polymer additives, thickeners, refractories, abrasives, ceramics and many more.
