I wanted to let you know about another upcoming security learning opportunity that many of you might find interesting. It's the Global Energy Asset Security Summit 2011 being held February 22-23 in Houston. This summit will cover global security issues for energy companies. It's aimed at energy companies operating in the U.S. and throughout the world and will look at case studies that demonstrate innovative approaches to risk mitigation, emergency response planning and intelligence strategies. It will also cover the following topics:

• Region-specific hot spots
• CFATS and compliance strategies
• Assessing risks in hostile environments

I will be speaking on a panel called "Global Security Challenges: Addressing regulatory compliance-driven security vs. threat-based security." Robert Ream, regional security manager, Americas for Shell Oil, and Steve Roberts, an attorney with Roberts Law Group, will be speaking with me. We will be discussing U.S. regulations, CFATS Site Security Plans (SSPs) and preliminary authorization inspections as well as geographic-based security concerns.

There will be a number of other industry professionals and experts at this event. Here is a partial list:

• Sue Armstrong, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
• Michael Lynch, Chief Security Officer, DTE Energy
• Alan Jones, Supervisor - Operations Management, Chevron
• Stephen Phelps, Former Head of Information Security, Shell Nigeria
• Roger Hawkes, Director of Corporate Security and Travel Management, Global Industries
